A Comparison of 3 Popular Pet Cameras

If you think buying gifts for people is hard, just buy their dog a present instead. Take care to address the gift to your friend and not the dog though!

Let this comparison article help to take the stress out of buying gifts for that one friend or relative that already has everything.

Pet Cameras and Treat Launchers

I envy you if you haven’t heard of these things yet. To put it simply, its a tower full of treats with a little motorized catapult and camera that you can control with your phone over the internet. You can listen to your dog, talk to your dog, and shoot treats to your dog while you watch, from anywhere in the world.

There are several brands of Pet Camera (I’ll just call them that for a generic term) out there, and not all of them were created equal. From differences in camera quality, microphone quality, overheating issues, and treat capacity, it’s worth your while to look at a few options before picking one up.

I’ve tested and researched 3 brands of Pet Cameras, each at a distinct price point: Furbo, WOpet, and TOOGE. Click on the brand names in the table below to check them out on Amazon.

At a glance

  • Furbo – Expensive, most popular
  • WOpet – Midrange price, best value
  • TOOGE – Cheapest, does not include food launcher or storage

Furbo

The Furbo sports a sleek and classy design, drawing compliments from guests. Most people don’t even know what it is, so when you show off the treat shooter, they are really impressed and immediately want to shoot some treats!

Here is a quick list of where the Furbo shines:

  • Beautiful design blends right into modern decor
  • High-quality camera
  • Impressive software featuring dog selfies, barking notifications, and a daily event log
  • It shoots treats.

While all these things are great and make the Furbo worth owning, it actually has a monthly subscription to use all its features.

A monthly subscription to use a device that you bought is simply ridiculous in my view. Add in the facts that the treat launcher is prone to jamming and Furbo is known for questionable customer support, make it hard to recommend this product.

Despite the product’s strong reviews, it appears that the product at one time included all the features mentioned on their product page for free, and later decided to charge a subscription fee.

Gross. Stay away.

WOpet

The WOpet is pretty ugly, to be honest. It looks like a coffee pot from the 80s or something. But it is functional and doesn’t have any annoying subscription fees.

It also fits considerably more treats than the Furbo, which may be important to you if you’re more about function over form. Unfortunately, like the Furbo, the camera is fixed, so you’re stuck with one view.

Here is list of the WOpet’s highlights:

  • Easy on the wallet
  • No subscription fees
  • HD Camera with night vision
  • Two-way audio
  • Simple app that is easy to set up
  • It shoots treats!

The WOpet may be ugly but it gets the job done. If launching treats is a must for you, I recommend the WOpet. Other than it’s ability to shoot treats, it doesn’t do much to impress. Purchasing through Amazon will give you access to Amazon’s legendary customer and product support.

TOOGE

At first, I was just going to take a look at the TOOGE to give a wide price range across all the pet cameras I looked at. But this little guy impressed me. It may not launch treats, but it does everything else the Furbo and WOpet does, and it costs a third of the price.

Here is a list of where the TOOGE shines:

  • Low cost
  • High-quality HD Camera
  • Night Vision
  • 2 way speaker
  • Simple app to access your camera from anywhere
  • Motion detector
  • The camera isn’t fixed – it provides almost a 360-degree view.

Really, the ability to shoot treats sounds fun and entertaining. And it is. For a few months. Then we hardly touched it again.

The massive increase in price for the ability to shoot treats just isn’t worth it in my experience. The TOOGE does everything you need it to, and nothing you don’t, and it does it at a great price.

Overall Recommendation

Go with the TOOGE. It’s inexpensive, well made, and has almost 360 degrees of view. Sure you can’t launch treats, but do you really want your dog to obsessed with the weird food box in the corner?
